Swingmory: Golf Swing Log
Privacy Policy
Effective Date: September 2026
This Privacy Policy applies to Swingmory: Golf Swing Log, an iPhone app published by RAKOU INC. (“Rakou,” “we,” “our,” or “us”). It is separate from the policy covering our other apps.
Swingmory is a video calendar for your golf swing. Where your swings are stored is a choice you make, and it changes what this policy says about them.
TWO WAYS TO STORE YOUR SWINGS
On your phone. Clips, thumbnails and notes stay on the device. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and we have no way to see them.
Cloud backup. Clips are also stored on our infrastructure so they survive a lost or replaced phone. This requires an account, and it means your video is held on servers we control. Section 4 explains exactly who can access it.
Both options apply the same rules elsewhere: the camera is used only when you tap Record, no microphone audio is ever captured, and no video, thumbnail or note text is ever sent to analytics.
1. Information Stored on Your Device
Whichever option you choose, the following is created and kept on your iPhone:
- swing clips you record in the app or import from Photos
- the thumbnail images generated from those clips
- the journal date each clip is filed under
- optional details you add: club, camera angle, note, favourite
- your onboarding answers (goal, recording habit, practice frequency)
If you use the on-device option only, this information never leaves your iPhone and we cannot access it.
2. Camera
Swingmory requests camera access only after you choose Record. It is never requested at launch, and it is never requested if you only import clips from Photos.
While recording:
- video is written directly to private storage on your device
- recordings are not saved to your Photos library automatically
- no audio is captured — the app requests no microphone permission
- the camera is active only while the recording screen is open
If you decline camera access, the app still works: you can import clips from Photos instead. You can change camera permission at any time in the iOS Settings app.
3. Photos
Importing uses Apple's system photo picker, or the Share button in the Photos app. Either way, Swingmory receives only the specific photos and videos you choose.
Swingmory asks for access to your photo library as a whole in one case only: after clips you shared into the app are safely in your cloud backup, it offers to remove the originals from Photos, and you choose to. It uses that access on your device to find those originals by their name and date and to ask iOS to delete them. iOS asks you to confirm, and removed items stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days. Nothing about your library leaves your device. You can decline, or turn the access off in Settings at any time.
Apart from that choice, your originals in Photos are never modified or deleted. Trimming produces a separate copy inside the app. Deleting a journal entry does not affect the original.
4. Cloud Backup, and Who Can Access It
Cloud backup is optional and off unless you choose it. When it is on, your trimmed swing clips and their thumbnails are uploaded to object storage operated by Cloudflare, Inc. on our behalf, and stored against your account. The details you add to each clip are stored with it, in a database also operated by Cloudflare: its journal date, club, camera angle, feel, note, favourite and session title. They are kept so your journal can be rebuilt on a new phone.
BEING PRECISE ABOUT THIS
Your stored clips are encrypted in transit and encrypted at rest. They are never public, never shared with other users, never sold, and never used to train any model.
They are not end-to-end encrypted. We hold the credentials to the storage, which means Rakou staff are technically able to access stored video, and we may be compelled to produce it by valid legal process. We restrict that access to the small number of people who need it to operate and support the service.
We say this plainly because “private” is often used to imply more than it delivers. If you would rather no one but you could ever access a clip, use the on-device option, where that is true by construction.
Uploads happen over an authenticated, short-lived link. We do not retain your Photos asset identifiers or capture device identifiers alongside stored media.
5. Your Account
An account is required only for cloud backup. The on-device option needs no account and no sign-in.
Accounts use Sign in with Apple. Apple gives us a identifier unique to this app and, if you allow it, an email address, which may be Apple's private relay address. We do not receive your Apple ID password, and we do not ask for your name, date of birth or any other profile detail.
We use that identifier to attach your stored clips to you and to check whether your subscription is active. Nothing else.
6. Analytics
We collect a small amount of anonymous product analytics to understand which parts of the app are used and where people get stuck.
Analytics events may include:
- app opened, onboarding started and completed
- whether a swing came from the camera or from Photos
- whether a clip was saved, played or deleted
- approximate clip length as a range (for example “4–8 seconds”)
- which storage option was chosen
- paywall views, plan selection and purchase outcome
- app version, build and country
NEVER SENT TO ANALYTICS:
- video or audio of any kind
- thumbnails or still frames
- the text of your notes or session titles
- file names or Photos asset identifiers
- exact video properties that could identify a specific clip
- your precise location
Session replay and automatic screen capture are disabled. We record only the specific events listed above.
7. Subscriptions
Swingmory offers auto-renewing subscriptions. Payment is handled entirely by Apple through your App Store account.
We use a subscription management provider to tell the app whether your subscription is active. That provider receives an identifier and your purchase status. It does not receive your card details, and neither do we.
8. Who We Share With
We do not sell your personal information. We use a small number of providers to run the service, each processing data on our instructions only:
- Apple — app distribution, payment, Sign in with Apple, and crash reports
- Cloudflare — storage and delivery of backed-up clips, for cloud backup users only
- RevenueCat — subscription status
- PostHog — the anonymous product analytics above
We may also disclose information where required by valid legal process, or to protect the safety, rights or security of Rakou or others.
9. Keeping and Deleting Your Data
You control your journal directly:
- delete an individual swing from the clip viewer
- use Settings → Delete all journal data to remove every clip, thumbnail and note
- use Settings → Delete account to remove your account, your stored clips and your backup entirely
- uninstall the app to remove everything it stored on the device
Deleting a clip removes it from the device and, if cloud backup is on, from our storage. Backup copies held by our storage provider for operational resilience are removed within 30 days.
If your subscription to cloud backup ends, your clips remain stored and downloadable. We do not delete them because a subscription ended; they are removed only when you delete them or your account, as described in our Terms. Clips already on your device are not affected.
Deleting your journal data does not cancel an Apple subscription. Subscriptions are managed in your Apple ID settings.
10. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete the information we hold, to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to your data protection authority.
Deletion and export are available in the app without contacting us. For anything else, write to hello@rakou.app and we will respond within the period your local law requires.
11. Security
On-device files are stored in the app's private container and protected by your device passcode and iOS file protection. Stored clips are encrypted in transit and at rest, access to the storage credentials is restricted, and uploads are authorised per request rather than by a key held in the app. No system can guarantee complete security.
12. Children's Privacy
Swingmory is not intended for children under 13 years old.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that information has been collected from a child under 13 without appropriate consent, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
13. International Users
Stored clips, account information and analytics may be processed in countries outside your country of residence, including the United States, which may have different data protection laws. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers. If you use the on-device option, your journal stays on your device wherever you are.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updated versions will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Where a change materially affects how your swings are handled, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
